The story of Dave Gallaher, captain of the 1905 All Blacks ‘Originals’ and regarded as the ‘father’ of the New Zealand national team. A leader both on and off the pitch, Gallaher devoted his life to rugby before leaving to serve in the First World War, where he lost his life in 1917. The voice of former All Blacks captain Sean Fitzpatrick recounts his life and his connection to four significant places: New Zealand, where he built his career; Ireland, where he was born; France, where he played his last international match; and Belgium, where he was buried. A symbolic exchange of soil between these places thus becomes a journey down memory lane, culminating in Gallaher’s moving return to his adopted home, Eden Park.
