Synopsis:
Roman Kostomarov had the perfect athletic career: Olympic champion, two-time World champion, three-time European and Russian champion in figure skating. However, in January 2023, a sudden illness nearly claimed his life. He lay in a coma as doctors performed several surgeries, and were forced to amputate his limbs. Prognoses for recovery were less than one percent…yet he survived. Thanks to the love and support of family and friends, he never lost faith, embarking on the path to recovery. Some 11 months later, Roman went on the ice again with his partner Tatiana Navka to perform their renowned “Carmen” program that earned them Olympic gold. Like his Toreador character, he was able to fight the illness and reclaim a fulfilling life.
