Sports Around the World promote sport in various African Countries, examines Rwanda, a nation with a dramatic past, yet with wonderful landscapes. Rwanda’s people are well known for their hospitality, and young people in Rwanda are keenly aware of their potential role in safeguarding a bright future. During a recent visit, volunteers went to various Rwandan village to ensure that the construction of basketball courts was being properly undertaken, or to introduce young people to basketball as well as to football and volleyball. Children and adolescents were taught the various rules, and coaches were trained in the organization of matches and tournaments to be held throughout the year. Basketball and football have become key events in villages or in parishes. New skills are combining with a sense of togetherness and with hope for tomorrow.
