Synopsis

In 2012 Olexandr Usyk won the gold medal at the Olympic Games in London becoming the third Ukrainian boxer to conquer this sports summit. Almost all the boxers of the London’s Ukranian team, called “the golden generation of Ukrainian boxers”, signed contracts with American promotion companies in 2013. Olexandr was the only one to sign a contract with the Ukrainian company founded by the Klichko brothers, K2 Promotions, and stay to train and in Ukraine. Usyk’s first year on the professional ring occurred against the background of very dramatic events in Ukraine: the Maidan revolution, the war in the east of the country, broken people’s lives and countless deaths. But the most painful for Usyk was Russia’s annexation of the Crimea, the place where Olexandr was born and raised.
