In May 2019 Journalist and Filmmaker Benjamin Best travelled for German TV WDR undercover to Qatar and filmed secretly massive exploitations of migrant worker from Nepal on FIFA World Cup construction sites. Because of his reporting, FIFA admitted for the first time violations of worker standards on FIFA World Cup construction sites. The Nepali government granted WDR’s request for official data regarding Nepali workers in Qatar, which showed that 1.426 workers had died in Qatar between 2009 and 2019.
