Synopsis:
How did a football match mark the end of the conflict in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and how did football become the world’s most important event for a single day? Only about twenty days after the official end of the conflict, two Cup matches were played—first in Prijedor, then in Banja Luka. Over 20,000 spectators gathered for the rematch at the Banja Luka stadium. For the first time in five years, war and politics faded into the background. The media reported: ‘Yesterday it was weapons that spoke here; today it’s football’.
