Speed Tribe is an audio-visual exploration of the 24-hour race at Le Mans, an annual motorsport pilgrimage in France. It blends elements of music videos and experimental documentaries against a background of contemporary electronic rhythms and soundscapes composed and produced by legendary producers of electronic pioneers Front 242. The video is 50 minutes long and consists of two parts: a 25-minute cinematic portrayal of the event; and a second 25-minutes, an ambient, hard-hitting and more experimental audio-visual remix.
Each video explores humankind’s ability to defy and transcend the physical limits dictated by nature. The viewer experiences the charged drama of the racing event-the heightened spirit of competition, the sensationalism of rivalries and loyalties, the weaponry of technology and teamwork, the epic emotions of victory and defeat. From varying human and environmental perspectives, the landmarks of the race are observed- the journey to the race, setting up the cars, the pre-race build-up, the explosion of the start, the serenity of the night the tedium of morning and finally the elation of the finish, with both visual effects and music emphasising the different scenes and emotions.
