Having broken three sleds, having dropped 3 dogs and having lost 15 kilos, Konyukhov covered 1150 miles in 15 days and 5 hours and finished the 68th out of 81 participants on start. The film is dedicated to Fedor Konokhov’s original record of that race: he became the only Iditarod-finisher who spent only 3,5 months training. Everybody was bidding 1 to 10 that he would not complete even a half of the route. But Fedor Konyukhov proved that he is able not only to lead a yacht to the finish line, but also a dog team. |

This event took place in the helicopter access only remote peaks of the Alaskan Chugach range and was staged out of a converted fishery in the town of Cordova Alaska. The international field of competitors was selected specifically for this event. As you can imagine, every day was an event unto itself. Winter sport experts call her one of Germany’s greatest skiing talents. Martina Glagow’s goal for the end of the 2001-2002 season was to take part in the Salt Lake City Olympics. “Molli” as her teammates call her, is only 1.58 meters tall and weighs just under 50 kilos-a featherweight one the German women’s biathlon team. But she’s cool as a cucumber and fast, both assets that put her at the head of the team. His goal was to be a professional snowboarder and in Easter 2001 his dream came true. Joakim successfully applied for a wild card to Red Bull Big Air competition in Are and was going to compete against the biggest stars of the snowboarding world. But the dream turned into a nightmare: "I got a bad carve and hit my head. I was wearing a helmet, otherwise I wouldn't be sitting here now", Joakim says. He was in a coma for the next four months and doesn't remember anything from that time. When he woke up he couldn't talk or move, but from the very first moment he was determined to bounce back. "I'm going to recover and go snowboarding again", Joakim says in October 2002, one and a half years after the accident. Despite the tragedy, Joakim's spirit has never been stronger - and likewise the support from his friends in the snowboard gang. "We live for snowboarding and it doesn't matter if you've been injured. One of the reasons for this is that skiing has been a staple part of the curriculum at elementary and secondary schools. The aim of the film is to show the various latest innovations and attractive instruction aids which can be used when teaching skiing at winter training courses. The viewer will be introduced to the techniques of carving skiing, new ways of waxing cross-country skis and skiing skills. An important part of the film has been devoted to basic safety rules on the ski slope and on cross-country tracks, including first aid. Last but not least, the film will show various motivational movement games on snow. Moreover, the film introduces the use of snow shoes as a new and entertaining form of winter hiking.
