Synopsis

Zdarsky binding, ski technique, bivouac sack, a mountain in the Antarctic, a chalet in the Alps, a museum and several streets – a list of things and places named after Mathias Zdarsky. A native of Třebíč and founder of Alpine skiing. Thanks to him a multitude of Viennese folk (and later enthusiasts from all over the world) succumbed to the magic of snow-covered slopes. Zdarsky was talented, skilful, highly educated, a grafter and powerhouse of a man who focused on his objectives even though his life presented him with many obstacles: two serious injuries and thanks to the strengthened, he reached his goals. His legacy comes to life each winter on snowy hillsides in mountains all over the world.
