Synopsis
In the collective consciousness, Italia 90, is the “Magic Nights” World Cup where the Italian dream shattered on penalties against Argentina. An event for the country, an ideal and metaphorical landing of the 80s, the years of prosperity. The story starts from 1984 with the assigment of the organization of the 1990 World Cup. The path towards Italia ’90 lasted six years, with the huge costs and the many jobs that not always keep the promises of development and modernity. Still, the World Cup was a festival of colours and joy, which made the world know the Cameroon reality, saw Yugoslavia and the USSR joined for the last time and the Germany’s triumph few months after the fall of the Berlin Wall. “Italia ‘90” was also the World Cup of Totò Schillaci, Maradona, Azeglio Vicini, and the Ciao mascot.
