Barcelona is getting ready to organize – from February 19 to 27 – the 14th edition of the “BCN Sports Film – Barcelona International FICTS Festival”, an event that fuses the passion for sport and cinematographic art.

The event – part of the “World FICTS Challenge” International Circuit – is organised by the Fundacio Barcelona Olimpica chaired by David Escudé also Sport Councilor at Barcelona City Council whom supports the event. Director of Fundació Barcelona Olímpica is Frances Terrón.

FICTS President Prof. Franco Ascani will join the “Opening Ceremony” at Museu Olímpic i de l’Esport Joan Antoni Samaranch on January 19 (at 7 p.m.).

An International Success: 81 Productions, 27 Countries

Once again, the BCN Sports Film 2024 has attracted the global attention of the public with the participation of more than 3500 productions from 87 different countries.

A total of 763 have been classified and 81 productions (in this case, from 27 different countries) have reached the official selection and will be part of the final grid. A sample of the cultural and sporting diversity that this festival encompasses. These productions, which total 26 hours, will offer a unique experience for film and sports lovers.

Of all of them, the selection jury has voted 35 productions to be possible candidates for the final award phase.

Sessions for all audiences: opportunities to immerse yourself in the world of sport and filmmaking

The festival will feature a total of 25 sessions spread across different venues. Each one designed to offer an immersion into the universe of sports cinema. Sessions for all tastes: historical documentaries, fiction stories, animation, humor, extreme sport…

School sessions: on-site and online

In addition, one more year, we will have 6 school sessions, which will give young people the opportunity to discover the magic of cinema and sport in an educational and entertaining way. For this we have the collaboration of FILMCLUB, an entity that promotes learning through audiovisuals, which has collaborated by developing the pedagogical dossiers according to the themes and ages of each session.

In addition, the BCN Sports Film Festival will open the market at a national level thanks to the Spanish Olympic Committee. The forecast is to reach more than 14,000 schoolchildren.

All sessions are free and available in Catalan or Spanish.

The virtual sessions will be active from January 15 to March 15. The face-to-face sessions will be held on February 20, 21 and 22 from 10 am to 2 pm at the Museu Olímpic i de l’Esport Joan Antoni Samaranch.

12 Emblematic Venues: Barcelona as the Main Stage

The BCN Sports Film 2024 will be deployed in 12 venues, located in different areas of the city so that all attendees can attend the 14th edition, as well as in some points of Girona. From our usual Centre Cívic Cotxeres de Sants to the majestic Museu Olímpic de Barcelona, each venue will bring a unique charm to this unforgettable festival.

Awards and distinctions that will recognize the best sports films

The festival will honor the most outstanding productions with different awards, including the coveted Amphora City of Barcelona for the best film, endowed with 1000 €, and other awards for fiction, documentary, animation, adventure sports, among others.

Also, this year, the BCN Sports Film Festival will host two special sessions:

  • A session dedicated to the celebration of the 37th America’s Cup Barcelona 2024. On Thursday 22nd at 18h, Starboard! will be broadcasted at the Barcelona Capital Nàutica headquarters.
  • A session to celebrate the 125 years of the Reial Club de Tenis de Barcelona 1899. On Thursday 22nd at 5pm Match Point will be shown at the same venue.

The BCN Sports Film 2024 is an experience that goes beyond the screen, merging two art forms that inspire and excite by telling stories that will make us reflect and learn.
