Prestigious assignment at International Olympic Committee to Prof. Franco Ascani

The President of the IOC – International Olympic Committee, Dr Thomas Bach has nominated Prof. Franco Ascani (President of FICTS – Fédération Internationale Cinema Television Sportifs, website: www.sportmoviestv.com) as Member of the Culture and Olympic Heritage Commission (presided by Dr Ching-Kuo Wu Member of the IOC Executive Board) following the renewal of the IOC Commissions composition.

The prestigious international assignment (unique Italian person in the Commission) rewards the work done and planned to spread the Olympic values through the different international activities carried out by the FICTS in particular with the IOC Foundation for Culture and Olympic Heritage. This assignment represents a significant recognition for the fifty-year activities dedicated to the sports movement by Prof. Franco Ascani, actual FICTS President, President of the UESpT – Union Européenne Sport pour Tous, Director of the Master in “Sport Management, Marketing & Society” at the University of Milano-Bicocca.

President Bach has significantly increased the number of women nominated into a commission compared to two years ago when he was first elected, with a third (32 percent) of places now taken by women. That is a 49 percent increase since he took office. There are also increases in the numbers of members from Africa and Oceania, as well as an increase in the number of chair persons from the Africa and Asia now accounting for 34 percent.

President Bach has significantly increased the number of women appointed to a commission since his election, with 38 per cent of places now taken by women – a historic high. That is a 70 per cent increase since 2013. In 2017, 29 more positions are held by women across the 26 IOC commissions than in 2016 and female members are present on each of them.

Ascani, who in the past was member of the Commission for Culture and Olympic Education, participated, in different capacities, in 13 editions of the Olympic Games.

The review of the scope and composition of the IOC commissions was one of the 40 recommendations of Olympic Agenda 2020, which was approved by the 127^th IOC Session in December 2014 in Monaco.

The Commission will make recommendations on the IOC’s strategy for information security, including cyber-security, and will ensure that the IOC has an appropriate strategy for the effective, secure and sustainable use of technology to support the delivery of the Olympic Games and the Youth Olympic Games.
