Dr Patrick Andrew Luwandagga (in the picture), FICTS 1st V. The Festival attracted 21 productions from Uganda (6), South Africa (5), Kenya (5), Tanzania (1), Russia (1), France (1), Usa (1) and Italy (1).

The event was organized in the framework of the World Championship of the Cinema and the sport Television “World FICTS Challenge” with the patronage of National Council of Sports. Mr Sammy Odong Guest of honour, Assistant Commissioner for Sports, gave out certificates to winners of various categories. He also thanked the leadership of FICTS Uganda for painstakingly host the annual event for the past nine years without break. He also congratulated the Milan-based FICTS Federation for giving Uganda (in the heart of Africa) the platform to hold the event. He reminded the audience how, several years ago, he was thrilled to see a documentary about Uganda’s athletics legend, the late John Akii-Bua, the 1972 Munich Olympic gold medal winner! Turning to sports journalism that churns out hours of footage that brings joy and excitement on the TV screens, he urged the various professionals in the sports cinema industry to continue doing what they do best.

As a way of promoting sports journalism in this region, it is our cherished view that your participation in this festival will go a long way in cementing the spirit of togetherness in improving our trade. The festival brings together the leading sports producers, directors, commentators, camera persons and programme buyers from the region, the continent and the world.
