“The story of Paul Pender” twice won against Sugar Ray

Two arts comparison, cinema (the seventh) and Boxing (noble art) will be key players in “Sport Movies & Tv 2016” scheduled for November 16 to 21 in Milan. “Unforgotten. The story of Paul Pender” (Cool Earth Productions – USA) is a documentary, directed by Felice Leeds, about the life of Paul Pender, world champion of middleweight boxing in the early ’60s, a fitting tribute for a man who was known for his intelligence in and outside of the ring. Famous for being the only boxer to beat twice Sugar Ray Robinson (1957) and once against Carmen Basilio in challenges for the title, Paul Pender exceeds the physical adversity and became the World Middleweight Champion. The story of Paul, who suffered from CTE (Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy), a debilitating disease that’s at the forefront of contact sports today, including football, soccer, and hockey, serves as both a cautionary tale for what can happen when athletes aren’t properly cared for.
