The famous Greek visual artist Mina Papatheodorou – Valyraki, “IOC Sports Artist of the Year 2014”, will be the “Guest of Honor” at “SPORT MOVIES & TV 2016 – 34th Milano International FICTS Fest” Final of the “World FICTS Challenge” World Championship of Television, Cinema, Culture and sport Communication (articulated in 18 Fests in 5 Continents) that takes place in Milan (Italy) from 16 to 21 November.
On November 16 (at 6 p.m.), the Greek painter and stylist (who has collected awards in art galleries around the world) will present – for the first time in Italy at the seventeenth century Palazzo Giureconsulti located in the city centre of Milan (Piazza Mercanti 2 – angolo Piazza Duomo) – an Art Exhibition dedicated to sport titled “Art and Movement” sponsored by the “Ethniki Insurance Company” (Greek National Insurance Company).
Mina Papatheodorou – Valyraki (in the picture with FICTS President Prof. Franco Ascani) was “Sport Artist of the Year 2002”, chosen among 67 Countries by the USSA – United States Sports Academy who awarded her with “The Order of the Eagle Exemplar”. In 2004 her Artworks became the official stamps and Posters of the “Athens 2004 Olympic Games”. In 2003, the Secretary General Koffee Anan presented her commemorative painting “The Olympic Truce” at the U N (United Nations) in New York, Artwork that belongs at the permanent collection of the UN venue in NY. In 1998 the President of the Olympic Committee Juan Antonio Samaranch selected her works for the Olympic Museum. Mina Papatheodorou–Valyraki was also proposed as “Honorary Artist” in 1992 Barcelona’s Biennale.
All sports are a source of inspiration for the Greek artist. The apparent calm of the body in archery, the harmony and the strength of water on which are drawn the winning routes of the surfers, the outstretched hands and the fast feet of basketball players, the legs stretched out in the last effort of the race before the finish line, the deafening motor sound and the competitive thrill in the Formula 1 paintings. The human body is represented as the most complete and wonderful machine, a combination of strength, will and intelligence that accomplish man. The attention for human body, his frame and his composition, the muscles, the tendons, the bones are the outcome of a long study and research, started thanks to a study after graduation on the human anatomy, considered by the Greek doctor Sorano and conducted through various stages of observation in the arts. The subjects painted by the artist not only conquer the whole range of the painting but they slip outside the canvas frame, becoming clear entities in the space thanks to the movement of the body, the powerful beauty and the spiritual strength of real athletes.
The Ferrari Formula 1, sports as sailing, swimming, hockey, soccer, athletics with the that one of Pietro Mennea image of 2016 Festival’s edition, are some of the artworks that the artist will show at “Sport Movies & Tv 2016”. The event is organized by FICTS – Federation Internationale Cinéma Télévision Sportifs, joined with 114 Member Countries (chaired by Prof. Franco Ascani Member of “IOC Commission for Culture and Olympic Heritage”) and recognized by the International Olympic Committee for which it promotes the values of sport through footages.
The event – articulated into 150 Projections (among which 30 worldwide and European premieres, etc.), 4 Meetings, 2 Workshop, 4 Exhibitions, Press Conference, 30 Awards of international guests, Side Events distributed in different locations in the city in cooperation with sports and cultural organizations. in collaboration with BMW Milano and with Sergio Bonelli Editore – will end on November 21 during the “International Day of Televisions”, with the delivery of the “Guirlande d’Honneur”, the “Oscar of Cinema and sport Tv”, the “Mention d’Honneur” and the “Special Awards” for each of the 7 competitive Sections.
