The 10th Beijing International Sports Film Week organized by the Beijing Olympic City Development Association will take place on August 12 – 18, 2014 at China Millennium Monument Museum of Digital Arts (CMoDA). Launched in 2005, the Beijing International Sports Film Week is an international sports film and TV screening event extended from the preparation and staging of 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.

The main activities feature five categories: the World Final of the Sports Movies & TV 2014 – 32nd Milano International FICTS Festival (Beijing) works collection and selection, sports movies and TV works screening, sports culture exhibition, sport movies and TV salon, and opening ceremony & 10th anniversary commemorative activity.

The 10th Beijing International Sports Film Week has solicited 60 outstanding sport movies and TV works home and abroad since the collection process officially began in April 2014. In addition to the sports documentary films by CCTV sports channel and regional producers, this year’s works exhibit the following features: 1) continue the trend set last year of outdoor movie registration for the selection, as outdoor brand companies and Reel Rock Film Tour select outdoor themed sport movies and TV works for Beijing; 2) in contrast to the small number of sports feature films in recent years, a group of notable sports feature films like Ready to Run, A Girl Of Archery Village, Diving High and Sword Girl make on the lineup, with the support of organizations like CCTV Movie Channel this year; 3) overseas productions register directly at Beijing Event through the initiative and invitation by Beijing International Sports Film Week Organizing Committee. The Hell of ’63 sent by Dutch Embassy, Sprint to the Past and inspiring , Step Back to Glory, from Taiwan are gems offering artistic value and visual delight.

The 10th Beijing International Sports Film Week will screen about 60 outstanding sport movies and TV works from 11 countries and regions, encompassing a variety of sports like skating, rock climbing, Auto racing and track-and-field. They will be presented in four Screening Units: Winter Sports, Global Perspectives, Sports Stories, and Outdoor Extreme Sports. Winter Sports screening unit is summer-time visit by winter sports events, aiming at cheering for the joint-bid by Beijing and Zhangjiakou for 2022 Winter Olympic Games; Global Perspectives unit reflects the joy and thrills associated with sports, along with the vicissitudes of sports life experienced around the world; Sports Stories unit gives the account through feature films about sportsmen’s passion and dream; Outdoor Extreme Sports unit shows the crazy aspect of sports by focusing on the most popular extreme sports among youth such as climbing, wingsuit flying and polar adventure. The best films from two outdoor movie festivals, Reel Rock and Banff Mountain Film Festival will stage ultimate showdown on the 10th Beijing International Sports Film Week. The ticket for the screening section will be sold online at the affordable price for ordinary movie goers, as an invitation to residents and sport movies and TV works fans to share with the high-quality visual gala. On some screening events, cast & crew will hold face-to-face meeting with the audience. Through communication with professional sports film makers, the audience will gain deeper insights into sports films, enhancing interaction on the scene of screening.

Picture and photography exhibitions led by National Geographic Magazine and The North Face extreme sports and sports culture exhibitions contributed by outdoor sports brands like TOREAD and KAILAS, media outlets like Lvye, Sohu Outdoor and Osports and related sports culture providers are the events that sports fans should not miss. “Ten-year sports history preserved in light and image” – the 10th anniversary retrospective exhibition of Beijing International Sports Film Week, highlight of a series of sports culture exhibitions, will look back at Beijing International Sports Film Week’s inception, glory of Beijing Olympics, struggling moments and renewal of the event.

In line with the screening of sport movies and TV works and hot topics on sports film and TV, along with generating publicity for Beijing’s bid for Winter Games, the 10th Beijing International Sports Film Week will hold 8 sports film and TV salons on August 12 – 18. Experts from Qiaobo Ice and Snow Club, coaches from Beijing ice hockey and ice skating teams, production team of film Heaven’s Gate, director of trailer for 2014 Sochi Olympic Games documentary Ice Bloom, reporters who participated in Sochi Olympics coverage, Wang Yongfeng, Director of International Relations Department of Chinese Mountaineering Association and Captain of Chinese Mountaineering Team, Director of Banff outdoor movies, and people from Lvye and Lantian will share with audience their personal and legendary experiences. “A Veteran Media Guy’s Journey in Brazil – Shi Xuping Brazil World Cup Mini Photography Sharing Session” will invite Mr. Shi to share his experience of interviewing football immortals while taking the audience to get in touch with customs and culture of Brazil.

The opening ceremony of the 10th Beijing International Sports Film Week & 10th anniversary commemorative activities will be held at the grand century hall of China Millennium Monument on August 12, when people from organizing committee members, partner media outlets, sports fans and business partners will converge. While looking back at Beijing International Sports Film Week getting through its first decade, people will give their thoughts and opinions on forging a global sports film and TV exchange platform, and speak up its promising future.
