Great success for the  “Kampala International FICTS Festival 2017” ended on September 14th, with a colorful Ceremony graced by the Minister of State for Works of the Republic of Uganda Hon. Gen. Edward Katumba Wamala. 

Entries from Switzerland, Czech Rep., P.R. of China, Belgium and Uganda out competed the rest to emerge winners.

Uganda’s Entry entitled “Youth Boxer”, produced by Amon Ngabo merged winner of the Documentary/Reportage Category.

Amon Ngabo was awarded a Certificate of Merit and a Trophy by the promoter Mr. Dean Kibirige which was handed to him by the Chief Guest – Hon. Gen. Edward Katumba Wamala.   

Other winning productions included:

  1. “Zatopek” – which merged winner in the Olympic Games/Spirit Category.
  2. “Table Tennis for NepALL” – which merged winner in the Sports & Society category.
  3. “Joyful Rendezvous upon pure ice & snow” – which merged winner in the Sport Advert/Promo Category.
  4. “Baghdad Messi” – which merged winner in the Sports Movie Category.

 

Then for the “1st APL Mentorship Award, was given to Patrick Kanyomozi, a gentleman who was nurtured by the late Dr. Andrew Patrick Luwandagga during his early days as an upcoming journalist and has gone  ahead to impress on the international scene by covering the World Cup 2010 in South Africa, The Winter Olympic Games 2014 in Sochi and the Afcon 2017 in Gabon.  Currently Kanyomozi is the General Secretary Uganda Sports Press Association (USPA). The wife picked the accolade on his behalf since his engaged in covering  the “2017 Sanlam Cape Town Marathon” in South Africa.

In his remarks the Chief Guest Hon. Gen. Katumba Wamala praised the efforts of his childhood friend the late Dr. Andrew Patrick Luwandagga who he testified started writing in the news papers when they were still in high school in the early 70s. He also lauded efforts of FICTS President Prof. Ascani for supporting FICTS Uganda and the inclusion of the festival in the World challenge.

Finally he congratulated all winners plus participating entries from the different parts of the world and encouraged Ugandan Sports Producers to increase their participation in next year’s edition.

All the winners will compete in “Sport Movies & Tv 2017”  Final of “World FICTS Challenge” scheduled in Milano (Italy) from November 15-20.
